Left Behind: Soe-Yipaala electoral area pleads for water, roads, and schools

The Assembly Member for Soe-Yipaala Electoral Area, Dr. Justice Aduko, has made a passionate appeal for urgent government and stakeholder intervention to address what he describes as severe infrastructural and social neglect in his communities.

Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga programme on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Dr. Aduko painted a grim picture of life in Soe and Yipaala, revealing that basic educational, health, water, and sanitation needs remain unmet.

“Our schools are in a deplorable state,” he said. “Pupils are forced to study under trees, and in some cases, kindergarten children are crammed into the same space with older students due to lack of classrooms.”

He stressed that the situation is compounded by the absence of essential teaching and learning materials. “We don’t even have chairs and desks in our schools,” he lamented. “There are no ICT labs, no textbooks, and no resources to support effective teaching.”

Dr. Aduko also expressed serious concern over the lack of toilet facilities, which has led to widespread open defecation in the area. “Most communities still practice open defecation because we have no toilets. It’s a public health risk.”

Water scarcity is another critical issue plaguing the area. According to him, most boreholes are broken down and remain non-functional, especially during the dry season. “There are no funds to repair the boreholes, and people have to walk long distances in search of water,” he said.

Health and transportation infrastructure is equally dire. “There are no improved health facilities in our communities. The few roads and bridges we have are in terrible shape. During the rainy season, many areas become inaccessible,” Dr. Aduko noted.

He further explained that although most residents are farmers, they remain unproductive during the dry season due to the absence of a dam. “If we had a dam, we could go into dry season farming or even fishing. But now, people just stay idle.”

Dr. Aduko is therefore calling on the government, development agencies, NGOs, and well-meaning individuals to come to the aid of Soe and Yipaala. “We are citizens of Ghana, and we deserve to be seen, heard, and supported. We are being left behind,” he said.
“Development should not be selective. We are only appealing for the basics, water, roads, schools, and healthcare,” he appealed.

Some listeners who called into the programme also echoed his concerns, adding their voices to the appeal for immediate action to improve living conditions in the area.
