Members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) have commenced their long-announced industrial action today, June 2, 2025, in protest against the government’s failure to implement their 2024 Collective Agreement. According to the Association, the prolonged delay in enforcing the agreement undermines the welfare of its members and threatens the quality of healthcare delivery across the country.

In an interview with Moses Apiah, the Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer of GRNMA, Desmond Yaani confirmed that members in all 15 districts of the region have fully complied with the directive.

“Today and tomorrow, our members will wear red armbands and headbands as a symbolic protest,” Mr. Yaani stated. “From June 4 to 8, we will withdraw all OPD services, and starting June 9, there will be a complete withdrawal of services if nothing changes.”

He noted further that the meeting held with the government on Friday did not align with their members, hence the strike. The strike has raised concerns about potential disruptions in healthcare access, particularly in rural communities.
