The newly confirmed District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bawku West, James Ayamwego, has embarked on a series of strategic engagements with key stakeholders in the district to foster unity, transparency, and inclusive development.

In an interview with A1 Radio, Mr. Ayamwego shared that since his confirmation, he has been actively consulting with members of the District Assembly, traditional leaders, and heads of institutions to lay the groundwork for a collaborative administration.

“I needed to at least get closer to them and let them know that I’ve always been in this job but I’m not ready to fail. I think that before I can succeed, it depends on them. My success will be their success,” the DCE stated.

He emphasized that his leadership style will be rooted in partnership, openness, and a shared vision with stakeholders.

“I asked them to help us succeed together. And by succeeding together, I need their support, and I’m open to learning.”

Traditional Authority Engagement

Recognizing the vital role traditional leaders play in local governance, Mr. Ayamwego said he personally visited chiefs across the district to introduce his developmental vision and seek their cooperation.

“I had to take time to go around, greet the chiefs, let them understand what I’m bringing on board, and at least ask for their support.”

These visits are intended to ensure community-level buy-in for government policies and projects, especially in rural and traditionally governed areas of Bawku West District.

Stakeholder Consultations and Development Plans

The DCE also announced plans to engage heads of government departments such as the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, and other public institutions to deepen inter-agency collaboration. One of his priorities is improving security in Bawku West, which he says requires a contextual understanding of the root causes.

Mr. Ayamwego further revealed that he will meet with former DCEs of the district to learn from their experiences and possibly integrate their unfinished or promising initiatives into his own development agenda.

“My next meeting, which is very strategic, is to meet all my predecessors one-on-one and get to understand what they intended to do.”

Leadership Beyond Partisanship

Despite being appointed on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Ayamwego reiterated his commitment to serve all residents, regardless of political affiliation.

“My job is to ensure that I bring everybody on board. I don’t have the ideas to handle the issues myself. I have come to realize that the position of DCE is the most challenging one could ever think of. I mean, you ought to deal with every single issue in the district.”

His message to residents is one of unity, shared responsibility, and transparent governance aimed at accelerating the development of Bawku West and improving livelihoods across the district.
