The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Education, has earmarked GH₵40 million as seed funding for infrastructure development in four public universities, including the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in Navrongo.
The announcement was made by Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, during the 5th Congregation Ceremony of CKT-UTAS for the Class of 2024, held on Saturday, June 21, at the university’s main campus.
A total of 790 students graduated, comprising 592 undergraduates, 198 postgraduates, and four students who completed English and French proficiency programs. The graduating class also included eight doctoral candidates, with seven earning PhDs in Applied Statistics and one in Statistics.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Professor Albert Luguterah reaffirmed the university’s commitment to delivering quality tertiary education in Ghana, emphasizing excellence in teaching, learning, and research.
“Go forward and be the change-makers this world—and Ghana in particular—so dearly needs,” Prof. Luguterah urged the graduates.
Minister Haruna Iddrisu disclosed that the GH₵40 million GETFund allocation would be distributed equally among four beneficiary institutions, each receiving GH₵10 million. The universities include:
C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS)
University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)
University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR)
Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS)
“We made an allocation of GH₵40 million for four universities, which we describe as seed money. C.K. Tedam University will benefit from GH₵10 million,” Hon. Iddrisu stated, adding that the funds would be disbursed before the end of the next quarter.
He emphasized the government’s support for academic freedom, reiterating that universities will retain autonomy in their internal affairs under President John Mahama’s “Reset Agenda.”
“We will respect the letter and spirit of the Constitution, not to interfere in the management and running of universities. That will not be part of President Mahama’s reset agenda,” he assured.
The CKT-UTAS 5th Congregation Ceremony brought together faculty members, parents, graduates, and dignitaries, celebrating not only the academic achievements of the Class of 2024 but also a major milestone in strengthening Ghana’s tertiary education infrastructure.
