Dilapidated Bolga Experimental Primary School to renovate with support from Blue Sky Companies

The Experimental Primary School in Bolgatanga, plagued by severe infrastructural challenges for over four years, has received vital support from the Chief Executive Officer of Blue Sky Companies, retired Commissioner of Police, Patrick Akolgo.

With a student population of 185, the school has long operated under unsafe learning conditions. Classrooms are marred by pothole-ridden floors that have caused frequent injuries to students and teachers. Leaking roofs, protruding nails, and unstable windows and doors due to prolonged neglect have made the facility hazardous, particularly during the rainy season.

To begin addressing these conditions, Blue Sky Companies on July 2, 2025, donated 20 bags of cement, 18 trips of filtered sand, and GH₵1,000 to cover labor costs. The donation, delivered by Maurice Duncan, a representative of Bluewaves Radio (a subsidiary of Blue Sky Companies), is expected to support partial renovations at the school.

According to the headmistress, the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) has previously tried to intervene, successfully flooring the Primary Five classroom. However, most classrooms remain in disrepair. She described how rain disrupts lessons, forcing students to huddle in dry corners due to leakages.

“When you enter the classrooms, there are so many potholes. The PTA was able to floor the Basic Five classroom. But the other classrooms, when you enter them, have so many potholes. Teachers sometimes trip and fall. As for the learners, they fall in the classrooms all the time because of the many potholes,” she said.

“When you look at the roof, almost all the nails are coming off. And I’m actually afraid of a heavy storm… I don’t know what will happen. The roof might come off. I’m only hoping and praying that somebody out there will hear us… and roof the whole place for us. When it rains, you see the children huddled in one corner because the rain falls on them. They are unable to sit in the classrooms.”

Circuit Supervisor Catherine Asibi Nyaba described the support as a timely intervention that has renewed hope within the school community. She appealed for further corporate and public support, especially for roofing repairs and classroom safety improvements.

“The school, as we have seen, is in dire need, and this is coming at a very timely moment. So, like Oliver Twist, we just want to ask that you shouldn’t end there… If you can assist the school in that direction as well, we will be very, very grateful,” she said.

Assembly Member for the Dagweo Electoral Area, Alhasan Bashiru, also expressed gratitude for the gesture.

“You have come at the right time to support us. We pray that wherever this support is coming from, God should replenish it and give him the zeal to do more to support our young ones.”

The pupils, excited by the development, voiced their appreciation and called on other philanthropists to come to their aid.

“When you were coming, we were very excited because we knew someone had helped us a lot, and we really want to thank that person. May God bless that person.”

“When our teachers are working, they are always falling. When we saw this, we were very happy, and we hope next time you can give us more so that we can cement it again,” another pupil said.

This donation marks a critical step toward improving the learning environment and ensuring safer classrooms in Bolgatanga. It also underscores the importance of corporate social responsibility, educational infrastructure development, and community-driven school renovation projects in Ghana.
