Thomas Duanab Wuni, former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi in the Upper East Region, has strongly criticized what he describes as an aggressive and unlawful approach by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in its handling of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) appointees.
Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Wuni expressed deep concern over the recent arrests and treatment of officials who served under the previous NPP administration.
He likened the actions of the current government to a political witch-hunt, arguing that the NPP, during its time in power, did not subject former officeholders to similar harassment or intimidation.
Mr. Wuni emphasized that while the fight against corruption and accountability is necessary, it must be carried out in strict adherence to due process and the rule of law. He stressed that no individual should be mistreated, humiliated, or denied their legal rights before a fair trial is conducted.
He cited the example of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, stating that although he has not been formally arrested, the level of public humiliation and undue scrutiny he has faced is unwarranted. According to Mr. Wuni, Mr. Ofori-Atta is currently unwell and receiving medical treatment, and any official communication or inquiry could be managed through virtual channels without resorting to unnecessary pressure.
“The law must take its course, but let it be done fairly. The manner in which some of these former officials are being treated is not only unethical but also damaging to our democratic values,” Mr. Wuni said.
He issued a stern warning to the NDC government, urging leaders to avoid using political power for revenge or intimidation. He reminded the current administration that power is transient, and the actions of today could have serious consequences in the future should political roles reverse.
“Use power responsibly and according to established laws. What you do to others today could be done to you tomorrow,” he cautioned.
Mr. Wuni’s remarks come amid increasing political tension over the handling of corruption investigations, particularly those involving former NPP officials. His comments contribute to the broader national conversation on justice, fairness, and political accountability in Ghana.
