A total of 256 recruits have officially joined the Ghana Police Service after successfully completing their training at the Police Public Safety Training School in Pwalugu, located in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

The new recruits, comprising 245 males and 11 females, underwent rigorous academic and practical training designed to provide them with hands-on experience in modern policing.

The comprehensive training covered three major academic disciplines: Police Science, Law Studies, and Social Science. In addition to classroom learning, the recruits participated in field exercises such as riding, driving, swimming, public order management, and incident and disaster management, all aimed at preparing them for the realities of effective law enforcement in Ghana.

Speaking at the passing-out parade, the Reviewing Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Frederick Kofi Blagodzi, emphasized that the new recruits would bolster the operational strength of the Ghana Police Service, especially as the country faces increasing security challenges such as cyber-related crimes, violent attacks, and communal conflicts.

He stated: “The changing phase of security in Ghana, which is characterized by emerging complex and cyber-related crimes, violent crimes, communal conflicts, and changes in modus operandi of criminals, continues to place a huge demand on personnel of the Ghana Police Service to deliver services that are more diverse, complex, skilled, and specialized. The current trends in crime have positioned personnel of the Service to live up to the legitimate demands of the public for peace, order, and safety, while addressing the evolving security needs of the times.”

DCOP Blagodzi also commended the Police Administration, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, for its ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the Service. He mentioned efforts to address key challenges including dwindling manpower, lack of operational focus, and low morale among personnel.

The 256 new police officers, including 36 Under Cadets, are expected to inject new energy and professionalism into policing efforts nationwide. With their skills and commitment, they are positioned to contribute significantly to enhancing public safety and national security.

Representing the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Roland Atanga Ayoo, urged the new officers to uphold professionalism and respect for human rights in their line of duty.

In a standardized national examination conducted by the National Police Headquarters in Accra for all six police training institutions in Ghana — including Accra, Kumasi, Ho, Koforidua, Kenyasi, and Pwalugu — General Constable Wornyo Lawson Yao emerged as the Best Recruit and Overall Best Trainee for the Pwalugu Training School.
