In a major disciplinary shake-up, the Upper East Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sanctioned 16 party officials and members from the Pusiga and Tempane constituencies for misconduct during the 2024 general elections.
The affected individuals, who held various leadership roles within the party structures, have been disqualified from holding any party office for periods ranging between three and five years. The sanctions took effect on February 20, 2025.
The action followed a comprehensive investigation launched on January 25, 2025, after multiple complaints of anti-party behavior were submitted to the regional leadership.
The Regional Disciplinary Committee, tasked with the probe, invited the accused individuals to hearings held at the party’s regional secretariat in Bolgatanga between March 22 and 23. The disciplinary committee thoroughly examined the allegations and submitted a final report to the Regional Executive Committee on June 20, 2025.
Speaking on A1 Radio, the Regional Chairman of the NPP, Anthony Namoo, confirmed that 21 party members were investigated, out of which 16 were found guilty of various breaches of party conduct and loyalty. He explained that the actions taken were in line with the party’s constitution and disciplinary procedures, aimed at promoting unity and order within the party ahead of future elections.
Among the sanctioned individuals were constituency-level executives, including the Constituency Communications Officer, the Treasurer, and the First Vice Chairman, who were each handed five-year bans and removed from their respective offices. Others received bans ranging from three to four years. Two individuals were punished for failing to appear before the committee, while one, the Constituency Second Vice Chairman in Pusiga, was dismissed and barred from holding any position until he repays funds he allegedly defrauded from party members.
However, not all those investigated were found guilty. Five individuals, including the Constituency Research and Elections Officer and the Assistant Secretary, were cleared of all allegations after the committee found no evidence of wrongdoing.
The Regional Executive Committee, after a thorough review of the disciplinary report on August 1, fully endorsed the committee’s recommendations. Constituency executives in both Pusiga and Tempane have been directed to initiate processes to replace the sanctioned individuals in accordance with the NPP constitution to ensure that party operations continue without disruption.
Chairman Anthony Namoo praised the Disciplinary Committee for what he described as an impartial and professional process. He stated that the committee’s work demonstrated the party’s commitment to upholding discipline, integrity, and internal democracy. He emphasized that the decision sends a clear signal that misconduct and betrayal of party ideals will not be tolerated, especially at a time when the party is preparing strategically for upcoming national and parliamentary elections.
The disciplinary action is seen as one of the most significant internal enforcement measures taken by the NPP in the Upper East Region in recent times. It underscores the party’s resolve to maintain order and loyalty within its ranks while holding its members accountable for actions that undermine its electoral fortunes.
