A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team in the Upper East Region, Dr. Moses Atinga, has expressed deep concern over what he describes as the politically motivated approach of Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine in the government’s anti-corruption campaign.
Dr. Atinga, who also serves as the constituency secretary for Navrongo Central, voiced his frustration during an interview on A1 Radio, following the Attorney General’s recent briefing on the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative.
According to Dr. Atinga, the Attorney General’s handling of high-profile corruption cases under the guise of ORAL lacks credibility and fairness. He accused Dr. Ayine of abandoning the principle of impartial justice in favor of partisan prosecution, alleging that the Attorney General is being used as a tool to persecute political opponents rather than pursuing genuine accountability.
“This is a man who has been pushed to witch-hunt and probably persecute his political opponents,” Dr. Atinga remarked, adding that the promises of a non-partisan anti-corruption campaign are not being fulfilled. He noted that Ghanaians were initially made to believe that the ORAL initiative would be impartial and target all individuals involved in financial malfeasance, regardless of political party affiliation. However, he believes that what is unfolding suggests otherwise—a pattern of selective justice that undermines public trust.
Dr. Atinga went on to question Dr. Ayine’s performance since assuming office, particularly his handling of corruption-related cases involving key figures. He argued that instead of applying his legal knowledge to promote fairness and justice, the Attorney General appears to be shielding members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) while targeting individuals affiliated with the NPP. This, he said, sends a dangerous message about the politicization of anti-corruption efforts in Ghana.
“You see, from the beginning, they made all of us believe that this so-called ‘Operation Recover All Loot’ and the anti-corruption fight would not respect political affiliation. They assured us they would go after all corrupt persons, irrespective of which political party they belong to. But in reality, the Attorney General’s actions do not reflect those assurances,” he stated.
Dr. Atinga warned that the current approach could damage the credibility of the entire anti-corruption agenda. According to him, the perceived bias in the Attorney General’s work has made it difficult for objective, right-thinking Ghanaians to support the campaign. He pointed out that rather than inspiring confidence, Dr. Ayine’s role in handling corruption-related prosecutions has generated widespread skepticism and disillusionment.
“Ever since Dominic Ayine was sworn in as a Minister of State, many of us Ghanaians expected that he would bring his legal expertise to bear on major corruption cases. But instead, it seems the NDC is using his office to absolve their own members while persecuting political opponents, particularly those of us in the NPP. This is not fair. As we speak, it’s difficult for the average Ghanaian to trust or support Ayine in the fight against corruption,” he stressed.
He concluded that the Attorney General’s conduct “doesn’t engender confidence and trust” in Ghana’s anti-corruption drive and called for a more transparent, fair, and bipartisan approach to tackling corruption in the country.
