Election 2016: Naaba Sigri Bewong Calls for Peaceful Polls

Chairman of  Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, Naaba Segri Bewong, has called for peace in the Upper East Region before during and after the upcoming general elections.

The Chief who doubles as the Chairman for the Regional Peace Council made this call at this year’s upper east regional tourism awards which was held at the External Crystal Hotel on Friday October 14.

According to him, peace is paramount for the development of the country and the growth of the tourism sector hence the need for stakeholders to ensure that the country continues to enjoy the relative peace she has been enjoying over the years.

Naaba Sigri Bewong mentioned that as parties go about with their campaign, they should preach peace to their followers and ensure that none of them mar the peace in the country because this is the only place we have.

The Chief also used the opportunity to call on other chiefs to make dates for their festivals available to Tourism Authority in order for the Authority to make provisions and schedule their festivals on their calendar.

He used the opportunity to remind stakeholder of government’s unparalleled support towards developing the tourism sector but called on all to make frantic efforts at making the tourism industry an attractive one.

The Tourism Award Scheme is meant to give recognition to individuals and institutions that played key roles in the tourism industry in the Upper East Region under the year of review.

In attendance at this year’s award was the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Albert Abongo, Member of Council of State, Adenzey  Kangah, officials of the Tourism Board, Chiefs and other stakeholders in the tourism industry.

On the night, over twenty institutions and personalities were awarded for their excellence in promoting tourism in the Region.

A1radio was adjudged Tourism Oriented Media of the year whiles GBC ‘ S Isaac Asare was adjudged the Tourism writer of the year.
