The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, led by its Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Roland Atanga Ayoo, has taken steps to address challenges at the refuse dump site in Bolga Sherigu as part of efforts to improve sanitation practices.
The site had become inaccessible, with heavy vehicles getting stuck while attempting to dispose of waste. This situation forced drivers to dump refuse along the sides, worsening the problem. To resolve the challenge, the MCE led the Assembly to push back the accumulated refuse and create more space, making it possible for vehicles to enter and unload properly.
“We couldn’t do a lot of the evacuation of the refuse dump from town to this place. The vehicles could no longer move in, so they were just dumping rubbish at the sides. Now that we have pushed ahead and opened the place, more vehicles can access the site and deal with the situation,” Mr. Ayoo explained.
During an inspection of the site, the MCE expressed satisfaction with the progress and stressed that it would improve waste management in the municipality. He further called on residents to view good sanitation as a collective duty.
“Sanitation is a shared responsibility. Traditional leaders, religious bodies, assembly members, opinion leaders, traders, market women, the youth, and all community members must play a role in keeping Bolgatanga clean,” he urged.
Mr. Ayoo reaffirmed his commitment to addressing sanitation challenges and announced plans to establish a taskforce to make Bolgatanga one of the cleanest municipalities in the country.
