The Upper East Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has honoured Emmanuel Bortey Borketey, Chief Executive Officer of Charger Ghana Limited, for his outstanding contributions to community development and social transformation across Ghana.
Mr. Borketey received the Community Service Achievement Honorary Award at the 4th Regional GJA Awards held at the BlueSky Hotel in Kumbosco on October 10, 2025. The event brought together journalists, corporate leaders, government officials, and development partners to celebrate individuals and organizations driving positive change in the region.
In a citation presented to him, the GJA commended Mr. Borketey for his unwavering dedication to improving lives through numerous philanthropic and developmental initiatives, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
“Through your Happy Man Foundation, you have brought hope and relief to countless rural communities by drilling boreholes to provide access to clean and safe water for people who had struggled for years,” the citation read.
Beyond providing potable water, Mr. Borketey’s humanitarian efforts span various aspects of community life. He has extended support to widows, the underprivileged, and marginalized groups, empowering them through livelihood programmes that restore dignity and promote self-reliance. His commitment to youth empowerment is also evident through the creation of employment opportunities and educational scholarships that continue to impact lives nationwide.
A passionate supporter of the creative arts industry, Mr. Borketey has championed local talent through music awards and cultural initiatives that celebrate the region’s rich artistic heritage. His sponsorship of the Happy Man Bitters Upper East Music Awards (HMB-UEMA) has elevated the profile of emerging artists and provided a platform for young people to explore and monetize their creativity.
Speaking through a representative after receiving the award, Mr. Borketey expressed his gratitude to the Ghana Journalists Association for the recognition, dedicating the honour to his team at Charger Ghana Limited and beneficiaries of the Happy Man Foundation. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote development, youth empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods in the Upper East Region and beyond.
