The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bawku West, James Ayamweogo, has been commended by Parliament’s Local Government Accounts Committee for his visionary leadership and dedication to completing key development projects across the district.

Appearing before the Committee on Friday, October 10, 2025, Mr. Ayamweogo outlined several initiatives aimed at boosting local economic activity and completing inherited infrastructure projects.

Highlighting one of the district’s growing economic strengths, the DCE noted that Bawku West is renowned for producing some of the healthiest guinea fowls in the Upper East Region. He said the Assembly intends to build on this strength by improving and expanding the local guinea fowl market to create more income opportunities for residents—particularly women.

“We have some of the healthiest guinea fowls in the region,” Mr. Ayamweogo said. “What we intend to do as a district is to expand the market. Currently, what the women are doing is good, but there’s room for improvement. We want to train and support them to do it better and make the trade more profitable.”

On infrastructure, the DCE said his administration has taken deliberate steps to complete several unfinished projects inherited from previous administrations.

“We’ve inherited quite a number of uncompleted projects,” he told the Committee. “At the moment, we have begun completing three CHPS compounds—one was about 80% complete, another 50%, and one almost 90%. We intend to finish all three within the year.”

Mr. Ayamweogo added that two key educational projects—a Junior High School at Kopella and ongoing works at the Kusanaba Vocational School—are also being prioritized for completion.

“Education remains central to our development agenda,” he said. “Completing these schools means giving more children the opportunity to learn in safe and conducive environments.”

The Chairperson of the Committee, Sawyerr Maame Pokuah Queenstar, praised Mr. Ayamweogo’s composure, detailed responses, and practical approach to development during the sitting.

“You have just behaved the way I want a DCE to behave,” she remarked. “Your understanding of your district’s needs and your clear vision for addressing them are commendable.”

Observers have described Mr. Ayamweogo’s performance before the Committee as a reflection of his hands-on leadership style and commitment to delivering tangible results for the people of Bawku West.

With several projects nearing completion and new plans underway to strengthen local livelihoods, the Bawku West DCE says his focus remains on building a district that is economically vibrant and socially inclusive. “Our people deserve progress they can see and feel,” he said. “That is what we are committed to delivering.”
