The Upper East Regional Police Command has issued an urgent appeal to the public to help identify unclaimed bodies at the Upper East Regional Hospital before a scheduled mass burial takes place.
In a press release dated October 2025 and signed by Chief Inspector Abdul Rahman Sumaila of the Public Affairs Unit, the police announced that the regional hospital plans to dispose of unknown dead bodies currently held at the morgue due to space constraints and extended storage periods.
The police are therefore calling on families who may have missing relatives to visit the Upper East Regional Hospital morgue to identify and claim their loved ones before the mass burial proceeds. This initiative aims to give families one final opportunity to provide proper burials according to their customs and traditions.
“The general public is entreated to come to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital to identify and take the dead bodies of their beloved ones before the mass burial,” the statement read.
In a related advisory, the Upper East Regional Police Command reminded citizens to carry national identification cards whenever they leave their homes. The precautionary measure could help prevent similar situations where bodies remain unidentified following accidents or other tragic incidents.
Families seeking to identify potential relatives have been advised to visit the Upper East Regional Hospital morgue as soon as possible.
