The Church of Pentecost has donated GH¢30,000 to the Widows and Orphans Movement (WOM) in the Upper East Region to support the education of orphans under the organization’s care.

The donation, made by the church’s national headquarters, is part of an annual contribution to WOM that typically ranges between GH¢27,000 and GH¢30,000. While previous donations have been used to fund skills training for widows, this year’s support was redirected to address the pressing educational needs of orphans.

Speaking to A1 Radio, the Executive Director of WOM, Fati Abigail Abdulai, expressed gratitude to the Church of Pentecost for its continued partnership, explaining that this year’s intervention was critical for keeping many orphans in school.

“The Church of Pentecost donates to us every year. Usually, the money is used to train women in vocational skills, but this year, due to the urgent needs of the orphans, we decided to use the GH¢30,000 to support their education,” she said.

According to her, the funds were used to purchase chop boxes, trunks, uniforms, sandals, books, calculators, and food for 39 orphans enrolled in senior high schools across the region.

Mrs. Abdulai, however, noted that the funds were not enough to cover all the needs of the children. “The GH¢30,000 was definitely not enough, so we had to prioritize the items on their prospectus. We provided food for all of them, but there are still many other children who need support for school and skills training,” she added.

She called on individuals, corporate bodies, and faith-based organizations to emulate the Church of Pentecost’s example and support vulnerable children in the region to access education and livelihood opportunities.

The Widows and Orphans Movement, based in Bolgatanga, has for years been at the forefront of empowering widows and vulnerable women through skills training, advocacy, and education support programs for orphans.
