The GCB Bank has received widespread praise from Muslims in the Upper East Region for introducing a Hajj Account designed to help prospective pilgrims save towards their journey to Mecca.
The account allows Muslims to make gradual savings toward their Hajj expenses, making it easier to fulfill this important pillar of Islam.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement, Abdul Wahab Adam Hamid, a representative of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, expressed his gratitude to GCB for the initiative.
“I’m so blessed to have participated in this program. This initiative will help not only the poor but also support better planning towards Hajj,” he said.
The Hajj Account comes with several attractive features, including a minimum opening deposit of 50 Ghana cedis, flexible contribution options through mobile money, the GCB app, or in-person deposits, and no strict timelines or pressure to meet targets.
Mr. Hamid believes the initiative will help Muslims in the region plan and save more effectively for Hajj. “It’s something that will really help,” he said. “You contribute what you can, at your own pace.”
The GCB Hajj Account provides a convenient solution for Muslims who wish to perform Hajj but struggle with the financial burden. As Mr. Hamid noted, “It’s not something they are forcing you to do today or this year. With time, you’ll get there.”
Representing the Upper East Regional Chief Imam, Uztaz Mustapha echoed the sentiments of the Muslim community, describing the initiative as a “unique project.”
“For so many years, our Muslim brothers and sisters have struggled to save towards Hajj, with many resorting to borrowing. We thank Almighty Allah for whoever brought up this initiative. We say a very big thank you,” he said.
Richard Wobil, Acting Liability Product Manager at GCB Bank, expressed excitement about how warmly the Muslim community in the region has received the Hajj Account initiative. He urged participants at the engagement to share the information with others who could not attend.
On her part, Sa-eeda Haruna, Bancassurance Manager at GCB, noted that the Hajj Account is an interest-free savings account with no charges. She assured that all processes and payments for account holders preparing to perform Hajj will be easy and transparent.
Abdul-Gadaf Abubakari, GCB Branch Manager in Bolgatanga, encouraged all Muslims in the Upper East Region to visit the bank and open the Hajj Account, stressing that it will make a significant difference in the lives of many prospective pilgrims.
