Four thousand eight hundred and eighteen (4,818) youths in the upper east region have been employed under various modules of the Youth Employment Agency.

This was revealed at a media briefing held in Bolgatanga, Tuesday.

Addressing the media at the meeting, the Upper East Regional Director for YEA Hon. Abolimbisa Roger Akantagriwen said there was the need to invite the press as partners, to let them know about the programmes, projects and other activities of the Youth Employment Agency in the region as they strive hard to create jobs and related opportunities for the youths in the region.

“We want to make sure that the youths of this nation are engaged and engaged profitably, so that at least they have something doing, because the devil always finds work for the idled hands and these are the concerns of government,” he said.

According to Mr. Abolimbisa, the target for the year nationwide was to recruit one hundred thousand (100,000)  youths across the country but as it stands now, the agency has recruited over 62,000 which represents 62 percent, even though the year has not ended.

He indicated that very soon the Agency will roll out some other modules such as the vocational modules which have a lot other sub modules and in the upper east region about 500 youths will be recruited when the module is opened.

“We have also thought of engaging graduates who have completed the tertiary institution, we want to put them on the pay internship and in no time, we will be recruiting not less than 2000 in this region because we have made a request for them and I know our request will be granted,” he added.

He believes creating employment for young people in the upper east region, will discourage them from traveling to Kumasi for non-existent jobs.
