The people of Feo-Awiisi, together with their chiefs, assembly members, queen mothers, and the St. Thomas Catholic Church in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, have celebrated their first annual harvest Thanksgiving, known locally as Kibisi.

The celebration was held to express gratitude to God for the bounty of the earth and to raise funds for the construction of a new church building in Awiisi. The church, which has been worshipping at Feo, hopes to build its own permanent structure closer to the community, hence the fundraising drive.

The event attracted people from the community and beyond, all joining in the Kibisi Thanksgiving Harvest. The celebration featured singing and dancing, especially during the distribution of Holy Communion, as congregants expressed their gratitude to God.

Rev. Fr. Moses Asaah Awinongya reminded the congregation of the sacred meaning of the Eucharist, saying, “Jesus took the bread and the wine and declared them to be His body and blood for our divine nourishment.”

He added, “I pray that we will continue to celebrate as Feo-Awiisi—a day of thanksgiving, taking time to thank God and one another for the blessings received.”

According to the planning committee, St. Thomas Catholic Church, Feo-Awiisi, is seeking to raise GHS 30,000 to begin the construction of the church building.

This year’s celebration was held under the theme: “Bring to God an offering from your heart, for God loves and blesses a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7–8).

St. Thomas Catholic Church, Feo-Awiisi, is appealing to the general public, individuals, and organizations to support the initiative to build the church and help in spreading the word of God.
