The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Talensi District, John Millim Nabwomya, has announced plans to procure and distribute 1,200 dual and mono desks to basic schools most in need across the district as part of efforts to strengthen education at the foundational level.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Nabwomya emphasized that addressing the furniture deficit in basic schools remains a priority for his administration, noting that a conducive learning environment is critical to improving educational outcomes.

“Yes, in the area of education, let me add furniture,” he said. “Very soon, I will be procuring about 1,200 dual and mono desks to distribute to schools based on need. As I always say, this will be done in consultation with the Ghana Education Service directorate because they have the data. They know which schools are lacking what.”

The DCE acknowledged that inadequate furniture continues to affect teaching and learning in several basic schools, forcing pupils to sit on bare floors or overcrowded desks—a situation he described as unacceptable.

According to him, improving the quality of education, particularly at the foundation level, is central to both his administration’s development agenda and that of the government. He stressed that early childhood and basic education form the backbone of human capital development and must therefore receive the necessary resources and attention.

“When we get the foundation right, everything else becomes easier,” Mr. Nabwomya noted. “That is why we will continue to channel resources into areas that directly impact teaching and learning.”

He further assured residents of Talensi that education infrastructure development, furniture provision and teacher support will remain key focus areas as the district works to improve academic performance and reduce disparities between urban and rural schools.
