The Kassena Nankana West District Assembly has resolved to undertake a number of development projects aimed at improving infrastructure, sanitation, education and market access across the district.

The resolutions were contained in an Executive Committee Report presented by the District Chief Executive, Stephen Aeke Akurugo, at the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Assembly Conference Hall.

Presenting the report, Mr. Akurugo said the Executive Committee met on December 1, 2025, to deliberate on recommendations from the Assembly’s statutory sub-committees for onward submission to the General Assembly for consideration and approval.

According to him, the committee resolved that the draft Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP) should be presented to the General Assembly for adoption to guide the district’s development agenda.

In a bid to improve sanitation and hygiene, the Assembly also resolved to provide places of convenience, including toilets and urinals, at all major markets in the district, as well as ensure the provision of water facilities at these markets.

As part of efforts to boost local economic activities, the Assembly will construct a modern livestock market at Paga and provide market sheds for the Chiana Market. Additionally, access routes to the Sirigu, Kandiga and Mirigu markets are to be improved to enhance the movement of goods and people.

The Executive Committee further resolved that the Assembly should prioritise infrastructure support for schools in deplorable conditions, citing schools such as Kaasi Junior High School and Kasaam Junior High School, among others.

Mr. Akurugo expressed appreciation to the Presiding Member, Assembly Members, heads of departments and staff for their cooperation and dedication throughout the year, noting that their collective efforts have contributed to the steady progress of the Assembly.

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to working in the best interest of residents and promoting equitable development across all communities in the district.

As the year comes to an end, the DCE extended Christmas and New Year goodwill messages to members of the Assembly and staff, calling for continued unity and commitment towards achieving the district’s development goals.
