The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on party members to stay united and strengthen grassroots structures as the party prepares for future elections. He made the appeal while attending the funeral of Madam Elizabeth Assibi Kanluke, mother of Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Anatuh Seidu Bogobiri.
Speaking at the ceremony held in Navrongo, Asiedu Nketiah stressed that unity, discipline, and shared commitment are critical to sustaining the NDC’s relevance, particularly at the grassroots level. He urged party faithful to set aside internal differences and focus on building a people-centered party capable of addressing the needs of Ghanaians.
The funeral drew a strong political presence, reflecting the high regard for Lawyer Bogobiri and the party’s tradition of supporting members during times of personal loss. Among those in attendance were Rashid Pelpuo, MP for Wa Central and Minister for Labour and Employment; Pios Avio, Director of Finance at GRIDCo; Mohammed Sapkparu, Majority Leader in Parliament; Mahama Ayariga; Simon Aworigo, MP for Navrongo Central; Donatus Akamugri Atanga, Upper East Regional Minister; Alamzy Nikyema Billa, MP for Chiana-Paga; Misbawu Adams, MP for Mion; Lawyer Amalba, CEO of Feeder Roads; Dr. Paarechuga, Deputy CEO of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); NHIS directors from across the country; and Alhaji Bolnaba, Upper East Regional Chairman of the NDC.
In a moving tribute, Lawyer Anatuh Seidu Bogobiri described her late mother as the foundation of her life and career. She credited Madam Kanluke for instilling values of respect for authority, compassion, discipline, and a commitment to service and leadership.
Born in 1940, Madam Kanluke was the daughter of Theophilus Kanluke, popularly known as Ex-Sergeant Moro Grushie, who served in the Regimental West Africa Frontier Force of the Gold Coast Army during both World Wars, and Madam Bagna Theresa Ayariga Kanluke, a trader and pito brewer from Doba, Navrongo.
She devoted much of her life to education, teaching at several primary schools across the Upper East Region and retiring in 2008 as an Assistant Director of Education. A committed Catholic, she also served as a catechist, choir master, and community leader.
Madam Elizabeth Assibi Kanluke, according to the family, left behind a legacy of faith, education, discipline, and selfless service—values her family and the community say will continue to inspire future generations.
