Kulbia wins Sumbrungu Youth Games as community celebrates talent and unity

The air in Sumbrungu was electric on December 26–27 as the Sumbrungu Youth and Development Association Games brought together talent, teamwork, and community pride.

Four communities, Kulbia, Amogrebiisi, Kolgo-Agusi, and Azorobiisi, competed in a high-energy “all-played-all” format, with Kulbia emerging as champions after two days of intense matches, finishing with six points. Sumbrungu Amogrebiisi took second place with five points, while Kolgo-Agusi and Azorobiisi each finished with three points.

Individual excellence was also celebrated. Bonaventure Amoah scored a remarkable four goals to earn both the Best Player and Goal King awards, while Atanbire Atanga was recognized as Best Goalkeeper for his exceptional saves.

During the prize-giving ceremony, Kulbia received a trophy, GHC 3,500, two packs of drinks, a jersey, and a football. Amogrebiisi, Azorobiisi, and Kolgo-Agusi received cash prizes of GHC 2,200, GHC 2,000, and GHC 1,800, respectively, along with two packs of drinks, a jersey, and a football each.

The event received strong support from Isaac Adongo, MP for Bolgatanga Central, who donated jerseys and footballs to all four teams and contributed GHC 20,000. Madam Fawzia Abagnama, NDC Regional Women’s Organizer, also provided jerseys, footballs, and GHC 5,000 in cash.

Albert Adongo, Chairman of the Sumbrungu Youth and Development Association, called on the youth to unite for community development. He highlighted the recent completion of a new police station and urged support for equipping the local health facility to reduce patient transfers to Bolgatanga. He also thanked donors and encouraged residents to contribute to community progress.

Representatives of the Ghana Police Service advised festival-goers on personal security, cautioning against walking alone at night during the festive season. The two-day games demonstrated the power of youth engagement in driving sustainable community development.
