The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, has appealed for the creation of a new parliamentary constituency within the Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly, citing the district’s vast size and the resulting challenges with effective administration and equitable resource distribution.
According to the MP, the Kassena-Nankana West District, which currently falls entirely under the Chiana-Paga Constituency, has become too large to be efficiently managed as a single constituency.
He explained that the district shares boundaries with as many as six areas, including Burkina Faso, making governance, security coordination, and development planning increasingly complex.
Mr. Alamzy stressed that the district’s expansive geographical coverage has overstretched administrative structures, affecting the fair distribution of development resources and limiting effective representation. He noted that residents in some remote communities often struggle to access basic services due to the district’s size and its border location.
The MP made the appeal during the visit and participation of the Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, at the annual Sirigu Festival, a cultural event that brings together chiefs, opinion leaders, and residents to celebrate their heritage and discuss development issues.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Alamzy urged Parliament to prioritize the creation of an additional constituency in the district to enhance governance, improve service delivery, and deepen democratic representation for the people.
In response, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga acknowledged the concerns raised by the Chiana-Paga MP, noting that the request for the creation of a new constituency in the area has been before Parliament for nearly 12 years.
Mr. Ayariga assured residents that he would support efforts to push the request forward but cautioned that he could not make a definite promise regarding when the new constituency would be created or the timeline for its realization.
He emphasized that constituency creation involves constitutional and administrative processes that require careful consideration, but pledged to advocate for the matter at the appropriate level.
