The Member of Parliament for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, has outlined a series of development interventions undertaken in the constituency within his first year in office, despite what he described as limited resources.
Mr. Alamzy was speaking at the maiden Azuko Festival of the Sirigu Naba, which also marked the chief’s 10th anniversary on the skin. The event brought together chiefs, opinion leaders, and residents to celebrate culture and discuss development.
According to the MP, his office, working with constituency executives and the District Chief Executive, has prioritized infrastructure development, particularly in education, water, health, agriculture, and electricity.
He disclosed that several schools and chief palaces across the district have been renovated, while many communities have received financial support to connect to the national electricity grid.
In the water sector, Mr. Alamzy said his office has constructed new boreholes and repaired more than 80 broken ones, improving access to potable water for many communities.
Touching on education, the MP revealed that five students have received full scholarships to study specialized courses such as law, medicine, engineering, and economics—programmes not previously represented in the constituency. In addition, 169 tertiary students have benefited from partial scholarships covering half of their school fees.
In the health sector, Mr. Alamzy noted that free eye screening exercises have been organized for residents. He also announced the award of a contract to a constituent to supply 630 benches to health centres and CHPS compounds across the district.
On agriculture, the MP said farmers have received fertilizer support, including the recent distribution of 2,000 bags of fertilizer and the donation of water pumping machines to boost dry-season farming.
He further emphasized women’s economic empowerment, stating that over 220 women have recently received financial support of GHS2,000 each to expand their farming and business activities. He also announced the donation of a shed to house a grain mill for women in Nabango.
Mr. Alamzy also highlighted progress in sports development, revealing that a talented young footballer from the constituency has recently been exported to Europe for trials and has since been absorbed by a club, with negotiations ongoing.
He assured constituents that the decision to support the player was not driven by financial gain but aimed at motivating young people to remain disciplined and pursue sports as a career.
The MP concluded by reaffirming his party’s commitment, under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama, to what he described as a national “reset” agenda, urging residents to remain hopeful and supportive.
