Fifty women from the Zongo and Nawumaye communities in the Bolgatanga Constituency have received business support totalling Ghc50,000 from Friends of Prosper, aimed at improving their livelihoods and promoting economic self-sufficiency.

The support, which forms part of the group’s women empowerment initiative, saw each beneficiary receive GH¢1,000 to strengthen their small businesses. Most of the women are widows and petty traders who struggle to raise income to support themselves and cater to the educational needs of their children.

Speaking during the presentation, a member of Friends of Prosper, Ayambila Peter Ayine, urged the beneficiaries to invest the funds into meaningful ventures that would generate sustainable income. He noted that the group would closely observe how the funds are utilised, adding that future support to women in other parts of the constituency would depend largely on the prudent use of the current assistance.

According to him, the initiative is part of a broader plan to empower women economically and reduce poverty within the Bolgatanga Constituency.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the timely intervention. Anna Azooh thanked Friends of Prosper and Prosper Awuni for the support, pledging to use the money judiciously to improve her living conditions. Another beneficiary, Afiah Akazule, also expressed gratitude, describing the support as a lifeline that would help boost her small trading activities.

The latest intervention adds to similar support earlier extended to 69 women in the Tindonmoligo and Tindonsobligo communities, bringing the total number of women supported by the group to 119.

Friends of Prosper, since its public appearance in September last year, has been advocating for Prosper Awuni, a Senior Economics Officer at the Research Division of the Ministry of Finance, to contest the Bolgatanga Central parliamentary primaries when nominations are opened. The group believes the constituency requires renewed leadership to drive development, citing Mr. Awuni’s social and political networks as key assets.

Although Prosper Awuni has not formally responded to the call, a member of the group, Lambert Akumzebe, said they remain committed to persuading him to consider the request in the interest of the constituency.
