Coach Francis Bawomya Moari, widely known in Ghanaian football circles as “Makiya,” continues to cement his reputation as one of the Upper East Region’s finest and most promising football coaches, following a steady rise marked by discipline, tactical insight and resilience.

A CAF License B holder, Moari began his coaching journey with his hometown club, Soccer Masters, where his tactical awareness and strong work ethic quickly drew attention from football fans and administrators alike. His ability to organize teams and develop players soon earned him wider recognition beyond the region.

That reputation led to a stint with Akatsi All Stars, where Moari impressed with his technical input both on and off the pitch, further establishing himself as a coach with a keen understanding of the modern game.

Moari later gained valuable top-flight experience at Berekum Chelsea, working under Coach Abu Hannan. He was subsequently appointed head coach of Division Two side Berekum City FC, guiding the club to the middle league stage, narrowly missing promotion to Division One.

His coaching journey continued with a brief spell at Walewale Catholic Stars in the Division One League, before he joined newly promoted Sankara Nationals as youth team coach and assistant coach of the senior side. After just five matches into the season, the head coach departed, creating a leadership vacuum that Moari was tasked to fill in an interim capacity.

Speaking on Dreamz FM in Bolgatanga during The Legend Show, Moari reflected on his interim stint, detailing the team’s performance under his leadership.

“I handled seven matches—won two, drew three and lost two,” he said. “We won at home against Yapei United and away to TF Exponential. We drew away to Tamale City, away to Wa Power and at home against RTU, and lost away to Bolga All Stars and Northern City FC.”

Observers say Moari’s tactical discipline, leadership, communication skills and ability to manage players under pressure were evident during the period, strengthening calls for him to be appointed as the substantive head coach of Sankara Nationals.

Football analysts in the region believe that with time and institutional support, Moari’s structured approach and analytical mindset could help the club achieve its long-term objectives.

For many in the Upper East football fraternity, Coach Francis Bawomya Moari’s journey reflects not only personal growth but also the rising quality of coaching talent emerging from the region.
