Youth of Winkogo in the Upper East Region have issued a one-month ultimatum to the contractor working on the Trans-ECOWAS highway passing through their community, warning of further action if construction works are not completed within the period.

The warning follows an earlier press briefing and growing frustration over delays on the project, which residents say have caused prolonged dust pollution, safety risks and economic hardship in the area.

Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tingmaalgo Sanga programme on January 20, 2026, the youth said they were united in their demand for urgent progress on the road. They described the Trans-ECOWAS highway as a critical regional route that links several West African countries, facilitating trade, travel and regional integration.

“For Winkogo, this road is not just a pathway; it is a lifeline,” the youth said. They noted that the project is expected to drive economic growth, improve accessibility and enhance safety for residents, adding that continued delays undermine these benefits.

The youth warned that failure by the contractor to meet the one-month deadline would trigger further protests, as the community can no longer tolerate what they describe as neglect and unfulfilled promises.
