Ing. Filson Awankua, an aspirant for the Upper East Regional Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has praised the resilience, creativity, and drive of young people in the region, describing them as innovative and highly competitive despite the challenges of modern society.
Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, Ing. Awankua dismissed claims that today’s youth are lazy, stressing that such views fail to recognize the difficult environment young people now operate in. “Whoever says this is actually not being fair to the youth,” he said.
He noted that unlike previous generations, the current youth must navigate intense competition, rapid technological change, and the pressures of digital life, particularly the influence of mobile technology.
“In our time, we didn’t have these mobile devices, so the challenge wasn’t as much. Now, the competition is huge, and the youth are more innovative and adventurous,” he said.
According to him, these challenges have pushed many young people to become more resourceful and bold in their pursuit of opportunities. While he acknowledged that this adventurous spirit may sometimes lead some youth to stray from acceptable boundaries, he maintained that the overall enthusiasm, energy, and determination displayed by young men and women in the Upper East Region are commendable.
“Because of this adventurous spirit, young people may sometimes go beyond the red lines, but I am extremely impressed with their energy and enthusiasm,” he said.
Ing. Awankua further emphasized that social media, often blamed for some of the excesses among youth, remains a powerful tool that can be harnessed for positive change. He called for deliberate efforts to leverage digital platforms to create opportunities, drive development, and make meaningful social impact.
