Former Upper East Regional Minister Tangoba Abayage is urging New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s January 31 presidential primaries, describing him as the most committed, experienced and credible candidate in the race.
Speaking exclusively to A1 Radio, Abayage, a delegate from the Navrongo Central Constituency, said Bawumia’s long-standing dedication to the party sets him apart from the other contenders.
“Since he was brought into the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has never looked back,” she said. “He has committed his soul, his body, his finances, his wisdom, his time and his energy to the success of the party.”
She pointed to Bawumia’s role as running mate, vice president and his involvement in the party’s legal challenge after the 2012 elections as evidence of his loyalty. According to her, he sacrificed personal opportunities, including international assignments, to support the party during periods in opposition.
Abayage also highlighted what she described as Bawumia’s integrity and clean public image.
“You need a leader you cannot attach wrongdoing to,” she said. “When you send Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, you are sending a lighter weight — not someone who becomes an albatross around the neck of the party.”
She argued that his experience as vice president and as acting president when the president was out of the country gives him a practical understanding of governance unmatched by the other aspirants.
“Out of the five candidates, he is the only one who has walked through the corridors of the Jubilee House as acting president,” she said. “If you want a president, you choose someone with the experience of being president.”
