Solomon Anabia Asampana, assembly member for the Kunkua-Daliga Electoral Area in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, says several development gains have been made in the community since he assumed office in 2019.

In a statement outlining his tenure, Asampana cited improvements in water access, climate adaptation, road infrastructure, education, agriculture, youth and women’s empowerment, information access and health care.

He said access to potable water has improved significantly, with about 11 boreholes drilled across communities, including Daliga-Zagoongo, Daliga-Kunyeringo, Daliga Central, Daliga-Bokin, Daliga-Adamtonbisigo, Daliga-Asawerika, Kunkua-Bokin, Kunkua-Kunyeringo, Kunkua Primary School and Kunkua-Yipaala.

On climate adaptation, he said education and sensitization on climate change have been carried out in the area. With support from ORGIIS Ghana, a climate change committee was formed and trained, while a first aid committee was equipped with first aid supplies. He added that early warning systems have also been constructed.

Asampana said road infrastructure has been improved to ease access to markets, schools, farms and health facilities, including the rehabilitation of the Kuyelingo-Daliga road.

In the education sector, he said he provided 77 dual desks and six teachers’ tables and chairs to Kunkua Primary and Junior High School. He also supplied a graph board and markers to Kunkua JHS, supported the construction of the Bongo-Daliga Girls Model JHS, and provided two desktop computers to the school.

On agriculture, he said 173 farmers received fertilizer support in 2024, along with threshers and training to improve productivity.

He also highlighted youth and women’s empowerment initiatives, including training for 20 young people in basket weaving with financial support, soap-making training for women and free financial literacy training for three women’s groups.

Asampana said access to information has improved through the installation of two community information centers in Kunkua and Daliga.

In health care, he said he advocated for and facilitated the posting of community health nurses and other health personnel to the Daliga-Kunkua CHPS compound to improve service delivery.

Despite the progress, Asampana appealed to the government and philanthropists for support to address key needs. He called for electricity connection to Kunkua JHS to enhance teaching and learning, additional furniture for schools due to deteriorating desks, and a library facility for the Bongo-Daliga Girls Model JHS.

He also appealed for the construction and expansion of a standard CHPS compound for the Daliga-Kunkua community and the rehabilitation of the Daliga-Ayamga-Boka-Kunkua-Gowrie road to improve year-round access.

“I believe that with collective support, the community can overcome its development challenges and improve the lives of residents,” he said. “Together, we can make a difference in Kunkua-Daliga and contribute to Ghana’s development.”
