Miss GNATLAS for the Upper East Region, Ethel Mmah Ayanoore, has pledged to intensify cervical cancer awareness efforts in schools across the region.

She made the commitment during an appearance on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East show on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, where she joined two gynaecologists for a discussion on cervical cancer, including its risk factors, prevalence and preventive care. The programme formed part of an awareness initiative led by the regional GNATLAS queen and her team to educate the public on the dangers of the disease.

“In the beginning, when I decided to take this initiative, I thought it was just about creating awareness, educating people and encouraging them to go for screening,” Ms. Ayanoore said. “But with today’s conversation, I am encouraged to do even more.”

She said her advocacy would go beyond designated health observances.

“Whether it is cervical cancer month or not, I will make sure that wherever I go, and with every girl or woman I meet, I take it upon myself to share this education,” she said.

Also speaking, Linda Agyeere, the Regional GNATLAS Coordinator, urged GNAT officials and coordinators to use their positions and influence to help expand cervical cancer awareness efforts across communities.
