GOIL PLC has donated 15 multi-purpose hospital beds to the Feo Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region to help address a shortage of beds at the facility.
Making the presentation at Feo, the Group CEO and Managing Director of GOIL PLC, and former Member of Parliament for the Bongo Constituency, Edward Abambire Bawa, said the donation followed appeals from residents, including youth from the community, for support.
He said the gesture forms part of GOIL’s corporate social responsibility focus on health, education and water. Bawa assured the facility and residents that the company would consider other requests raised by the community, noting that the Feo CHPS compound serves not only Feo but several surrounding communities and experiences high patient traffic.
Receiving the beds, the Chief of Feo, Naba Azaare Anyenaba II, expressed gratitude to GOIL for the timely intervention, saying the facility had been in dire need of beds. He thanked Bawa for the gesture and appealed to individuals and corporate bodies, especially natives of the Upper East Region, to support the development of the CHPS compound and the community.
Also present was the Bongo District Health Director, Mrs. Estella Abazesi, who joined in receiving the items and conveyed appreciation for the support to the facility.
The donation comes amid concerns that the lack of beds had forced some patients to lie on bare floors while receiving care. The facility serves Feo and surrounding communities in the district.
In addition, the youth of Feo mobilized funds to donate a television set, standing fan, chairs, a freezer and other essential items to support service delivery. Speaking on their behalf, the Queen Mother of Feo, Felicia Agamboka, said the intervention became necessary after several appeals to authorities yielded no response.
Receiving the items for the facility, Senior Midwifery Officer and Officer-in-Charge, Madam Samata Adogbongo, thanked GOIL and the youth for their support. She noted that the CHPS compound still faces challenges, including inadequate staff accommodation and limited health personnel to care for admitted patients.
She urged the youth to remain peaceful and continue contributing to the development of healthcare in the area.
