The District Chief Executive for Bolgatanga East, Jacob Abugre Aka-eri, has initiated road maintenance works on the stretch from the Timber Market to the main bridge leading to Bolgatanga township, using the Assembly’s grader machines.

The DCE supervised the regravelling, reshaping and compacting of the road segment to improve motorability and reduce dust. Additionally, he has committed to watering the road twice a week for three weeks to further control dust and maintain improved road conditions.

According to Mr. Aka-eri, dust along the stretch had become unbearable for residents and motorists.

“It got to a point where the dust was unbearable. People who ply the road complained that once you passed through, your clothes would be covered in dust,” he said.

He further noted that some Assembly staff had resorted to wearing protective clothing over their work attire while commuting, only removing the extra layers upon arrival at the office — a practice that had continued for some time due to the dusty conditions.

Mr. Aka-eri explained that the Bolgatanga–Bawku road project had previously been awarded to a contractor who abandoned the site in 2022. Although the contractor returned in 2025 to resume work, he later left again, reportedly due to payment challenges.

“Our hope is that the contractor will be paid so he can return to complete the work,” he said.

In the meantime, the Assembly decided to mobilize its own resources to improve the stretch.

“As an Assembly, we mobilized our grader machines, fuel, operators and materials. We are even buying water to ensure the road is properly compacted and smooth for riders and other road users from the Timber Market to the bridge,” he stated.

Mr. Aka-eri made these remarks on Bolga FM’s Tingmaalgo Sanga programme on February 25, 2026, hosted by Joseph Napoleon Anaaya.
