The Deputy Regional Secretary of the National Union of Tricycle Operators Ghana (NUTOG), Awobgo Abonimasime Sebastian, has raised serious concerns about the deteriorating condition of the road network, particularly the stretches between Wikongo and Zuarungu.

The vital roads, which serve as key arteries for local commuters and commercial transport, have been “plagued by potholes, erosion, and general disrepair, with dust causing significant inconvenience and safety risks for road users,” he said.

He made these remarks during the launch of the National Tricycle Operators Union of Ghana (NUTOG) chapter in Bolgatanga on March 28, 2026.

Highlighting the critical role that good road infrastructure plays in the transport sector, the Deputy NUTOG emphasized that the deteriorating condition of both road stretches is a major challenge for tricycle operators and other road users.

“The poor road surfaces, marked by potholes and erosion, not only cause frequent vehicle breakdowns but also pose significant safety risks,” Mr. Awobgo said.

The launch event, which brought together tricycle operators from across the region, youth groups, stakeholders, the DVLA, the District Assembly, the Road Safety Authority, and the NCCE, provided a platform for the Deputy NUTOG to call on government agencies and local authorities to prioritize the rehabilitation and maintenance of the Wikongo and Zuarungu roads. He stressed that improving these roads would facilitate smoother and safer transportation, boost economic activity, and improve the livelihoods of many who depend on them daily.

Mr. Awobgo’s remarks resonated strongly with the tricycle operators and community members present, who have long been advocating for urgent road repairs.

“The establishment of the NUTOG chapter in Bolgatanga is expected to strengthen the voice of tricycle operators in the region, enabling them to better advocate for improved infrastructure and support from relevant stakeholders,” he said.
