A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team in the Upper East Region, Isaac Ayemvoa, says the government remains committed to allowing the legislative process on the LGBTQ+ bill to run its course, urging the public to be patient as it progresses through Parliament.
“Now that the president is in office and has made a commitment to sign the bill, what we should do is wait for it to go through Parliament,” he said.
His comments come amid criticism from sections of the public who believe the party has softened its stance on LGBTQ+ issues compared to its position while in opposition.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Ayemvoa addressed concerns over the party’s perceived silence, explaining that the bill has already begun the required processes.
He expressed confidence that it will be passed before the end of the government’s term.
“That bill will certainly be passed before the NDC government leaves office. That is the assurance I have for those who are worried,” he said.
According to him, concerns should only arise if the bill reaches the presidency and is not assented to.
Mr. Ayemvoa acknowledged that some members of the public remain uneasy about the issue but said such concerns are understandable.
He, however, maintained that the president is committed to signing the bill once it is duly passed.
