The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly is expanding school infrastructure, supplying learning materials, and training teachers as part of efforts to improve education in the municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Roland Atanga Ayoo, said education remains a key priority for the Assembly.
Speaking during his one-year anniversary address to stakeholders on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, he said investments in education are aimed at improving access and learning outcomes.
The engagement brought together education officials, community leaders, and residents. It also included a question-and-answer session and visits to selected project sites.
The Assembly is constructing and rehabilitating classroom blocks in several communities.
At Kolgu-Agusi, a three-unit classroom block with an ICT and library facility, staff common room, and sanitation units is at the lintel stage. At Aperiga-Dorongo, a two-unit kindergarten block with toilet facilities is at the plastering stage.
A kindergarten block at Yorogo-Gaabisi has been completed and painted. At Nyariga Primary School, a three-unit classroom block is at the roofing stage.
“Our priority is to reduce overcrowding and improve learning conditions,” Mr. Ayoo said.
The Assembly has also distributed more than 1,200 dual desks to basic schools and supplied 11,852 textbooks through the Municipal Education Directorate.
He said the materials are aimed at improving classroom conditions and learning outcomes.
According to Mr. Ayoo, 629 teachers have received training in curriculum interpretation and assessment.
He said the training is intended to improve teaching quality across schools in the municipality. The Assembly also provided learning materials to 450 Basic Education Certificate Examination candidates.
Mr. Ayoo said the projects are being distributed across both urban and rural communities to ensure equitable access to education infrastructure. He added that the Assembly is also working to improve girls’ education and retention rates in schools.
He said the investments form part of a broader strategy to develop human capital in the municipality. “These investments in classrooms, teachers, and learning materials are about building the future of Bolgatanga,” he said.
