The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged party supporters to exercise patience and discipline in government, cautioning against the rush for personal gain.
Addressing supporters in the Builsa North and South constituencies during his two-day tour of the Upper East Region as part of his nationwide “Thank You Tour,” Mr. Asiedu Nketia said the party’s ability to remain in power will depend on maintaining public trust.
“So, I want to tell you, let us do what will help us continue to earn the trust of Ghanaians, so that we can remain in power much longer,” he said. “We can then benefit gradually over a longer period, and that will bring some level of satisfaction.”
The NDC chairman warned that attempts to seek immediate rewards from political office could undermine the party’s future.
“But if we want to take our pound of flesh within one year, two years, or three years, then we cannot escape the fate of our predecessors,” he said.
He added that the party is currently well-positioned to govern for a longer period if members remain united and disciplined.
“We are positioned now, if we organise ourselves well, to remain in power for much longer. That is why we should not lose this opportunity. We should tread cautiously,” he said.
The Thank You Tour is part of a nationwide exercise to express gratitude to voters and account for the government’s performance since returning to power.
In the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Mr. Asiedu Nketia also said the John Dramani Mahama administration is managing the economy prudently, with no major scandals recorded nearly 18 months into office.
