An old student of Sirigu Integrated Senior High School and a pioneer of the school’s Visually Impaired Unit, Victor Alagbela, has appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations, philanthropists, corporate institutions, and development partners to support the establishment of a resource centre for visually impaired students at the school.

Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga programme, Mr. Alagbela emphasised the importance of providing adequate educational resources for students with visual impairments to enhance their learning experience and academic performance.

According to him, visually impaired students face numerous challenges in accessing learning materials and educational support services, making it difficult for them to compete on equal terms with their peers. He noted that a well-equipped resource centre would provide specialised learning materials, assistive technologies, and a conducive environment to support their academic development.

Mr. Alagbela explained that such a facility would serve as an important hub where visually impaired students could access Braille materials, audio learning resources, computers with assistive software, and other educational tools necessary for effective learning.

He stressed that investing in the education of persons with disabilities is essential to promoting inclusiveness and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of physical challenges.

The pioneer of the Visually Impaired Unit further noted that many students with visual impairments possess exceptional talents and academic abilities but require the right support systems to excel in their studies and contribute meaningfully to society.

He therefore called on stakeholders in education, disability advocacy groups, old students, charitable organisations, and benevolent individuals to support the establishment of a modern resource centre for visually impaired students at Sirigu Integrated Senior High School.

Mr. Alagbela expressed confidence that, with the needed support, the school would continue to provide quality inclusive education and empower visually impaired students to become productive members of society.

“Every child deserves equal access to quality education. A resource centre for visually impaired students will go a long way in improving learning outcomes and creating opportunities for them to achieve their dreams,” he stated.
