Midwifery students at Regentropfen University College (RUC) are set to receive more hands-on training in maternal care following the donation of two advanced simulation dummies by Menesto Medical Centre in Balungu, Bongo District of the Upper East Region.
The two dummies, acquired by the university on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, are designed to replicate pregnant women and feature electronically adjustable fetal movements, allowing students to simulate aspects of pregnancy and childbirth during practical lessons.
The equipment is expected to strengthen practical instruction for students in the university’s health programmes, particularly those pursuing BSc Midwifery, as well as General Nursing and Public Health Nursing.
The donation comes as the university seeks to strengthen the practical component of health training and give students greater exposure to equipment used in maternal and newborn care.
Receiving the equipment, RUC Registrar Dr. Erasmus Mortty thanked Menesto Medical Centre for supporting the university’s health training programmes.
He said practical equipment is essential to helping students bridge the gap between classroom instruction and professional practice.
Dr. Mortty said the university would continue to seek partnerships that improve students’ practical skills and prepare them for work in the health sector.
Management of Menesto Medical Centre has also pledged to visit RUC’s Midwifery Department to assess the equipment needs of its skills laboratory.
The assessment is expected to determine where future support from the medical centre can have the greatest impact.
The Manager of Menesto Medical Centre, John Nsobila, said the facility intends to tailor future donations to the university’s actual needs.
He reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to working with RUC to strengthen practical health education.
The approach means future support will be based on identified equipment gaps within the Midwifery Department rather than general donations.
For RUC, the two maternal simulation dummies provide an immediate addition to its practical training resources, while the planned assessment by Menesto Medical Centre could broaden the partnership into longer-term support for the department.
