A women’s group in Gowrie in the Bongo Constituency has received GH¢13,000 from Member of Parliament Charles Bawadua to help complete a weaving centre that has remained unfinished for several years.
The Noyan Keeka Ka’ase Koma Women Group said the money has enabled it to undertake some outstanding works at the facility, including concreting the floor and installing burglar-proof windows.
Secretary of the group, Williams Akuriba Atule, said the intervention came at a time when members had almost lost hope of completing the project because of financial constraints.
The weaving centre was initiated during the tenure of former Bongo MP Albert Abongo but stalled after work could not continue due to a lack of funds, according to the group.
Mr. Atule said the women were grateful to Mr. Bawadua for responding to their request and helping move the project closer to completion.
Despite the latest works, however, parts of the facility remain unfinished.
The group has therefore appealed to individuals, philanthropists, organisations and other institutions for additional financial and material support to complete the remaining works.
According to the women, completing the centre would provide them with a dedicated space to develop their weaving skills and undertake income-generating activities.
They believe the facility could help improve livelihoods by creating opportunities for women to earn income and better support their households.
