Residents of Azosidaana in the Bongo District are appealing for a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound, saying the absence of a health facility in the community is making access to healthcare difficult, particularly for pregnant women and children.
Residents currently have to travel outside the community to seek medical attention, a situation they say becomes particularly challenging for women seeking maternal healthcare and families accessing routine health services for their children.
Women in the community say establishing a CHPS compound would bring essential services closer to them and reduce the distance they have to travel for healthcare.
They said pregnant women would have easier access to antenatal care and other maternal health services, while mothers could regularly take their children for growth monitoring and other essential healthcare services.
Residents are also concerned about access to medical attention during emergencies, when travelling outside the community could delay care.
They believe a CHPS compound, supported with the necessary health personnel and equipment, would significantly improve access to primary healthcare and reduce some of the difficulties residents currently experience.
The community is therefore appealing to the Bongo District Assembly, Ghana Health Service, government and development partners to support the establishment of a CHPS compound in Azosidaana.
Residents say bringing healthcare closer to the community would particularly improve access for women and children while ensuring that people can seek medical attention promptly when the need arises.
