Smile Multimedia group, organizers of the Northern Ghana Entertainment Awards launched the 2nd edition of the Northern Ghana Entertainment awards scheme in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region on Friday 27th January 2017 at Akayet Hotel.
The event which was first held in Tamale in 2016 awarded hard working personalities in the entertainment industry. The event awards persons in the movie, music, and media who have in diverse ways contributed immensely to the development of the entertainment industry within the 3 northern regions of Ghana namely; Upper East, Upper West and the Northern Region.
This year’s launching saw lots of entertainment enthusiast, musicians, actors and actresses, event organizers, managers, Directors, producers and CEO’s all under one roof for the launching.
The Director of Smile Multimedia Group Mr. Latif said the purpose of the scheme gives personalities in the entertainment industry the opportunity to compete for the prestigious awards.
He said this year the awards scheme will awarding personal who have contributed to the development of the entertainment industry in the year in review. He said as the launching has taken place in the upper east region, the nominee jam will take place in the upper west region and the main awards night will take place in Tamale in the northern region on the 1st of April 2017.
Mr. Latif said the awards scheme this year will award personalities in music, sports, movie and media. He said the scheme will also award what they call the MUSIGA merit award. He spelled out the fact the that the scheme will award Plaques to winning individuals in the music, movie and media category whiles those who will be awarded in the MUSIGA merit category will take home citations.
He took the opportunity thank partners and supporters of the event and called on other interested parties to come on board assist the organizers to better award these personalities in the coming years.
Mr. Roger Laari Jnr the CEO of MOAB one of the partners of the event added his voice to the call for support for the scheme. He lauded the initiative and encouraged the concerned to file in to be nominated in the competition. He urged organizers of the event to ensure that there is transparency and fairness in the scheme to ensure increased participation in the event in the coming years.
Mr. Sulemana Abubakari Sadik the PRO of Smile Multimedia Group organizers of the awards scheme outlined how the scheme will be handled this year to ensure fairness and transparency. He said a 15 member selection committee will be created in the various regions whose main responsibility is to screen the songs and movies that will filed in the year under review. After which a 9 member board will then shortlist to come out with the final nomination list.
In all the scheme will see 17 music awards categories, 7 film awards categories, 8 media categories, 3 sports categories and 6 merit awards.
