Minister-designate for sports, Hon. Isaac Asiamah has promised to inject life into the Ghana Premier League which he has said is gradually dying.

Several pundits have said the local league lacks the spark and quality to attract investors to the league which was in time past the toast of Ghanaians.

In injecting life into the league, he noted that the inability of teams to retain players in the local league is also a contributory factor to the poor patronage of the league but “I will meet the people at the GFA to discuss with them to have a quota system from the local league in the Black Stars in order to give the local players exposure and also create local stars for the league”.

On the issue of sponsorship for the Ghana Premier League, the Minister mentioned that he intends meeting with the Ghana Football Association to ensure that every region is represented in the league to afford sponsors nationwide coverage.

“You could see that the league is not representative because not all the regions are represented in the league. Look at Eastern region and Volta region, they have no representatives in the league so a sponsor cannot get the nationwide patronage so they drag their feet but if every region is represented, it will be easier to get sponsorship for the league.”
