Akufo-Addo delivers first State of the Nation address Feb. 21

On Tuesday, February 21, 2017, President Akufo-Addo will deliver his first State of the Nation address as President of Ghana.

The President’s address is expected to present an overview of the state of the various sectors of the country’s economy inherited from the erstwhile John Mahama-led government and also outline his vision for the development of the country for the next fiscal year.

This will be on the floor of parliament in accordance with article Article 67 of the Constitution.

“Pursuant to and as required by article 67 of the constitution, I wish to notify you that I intend to deliver a message on the state of the nation on February 21, 2017. Please accept Mr Speaker, the assurance of my highest esteem and best wishes,” excerpts of Akufo-Addo’s letter notifying the speaker of parliament of his intentions read.

Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo was sworn into power on January after he won December 2016 elections against the National Democratic Congress and other political parties which were in the contest.

The President has since assumption of office forming his government which he will work with to push the change agenda they campaigned on.
