Sellas-Tetteh1Ebenezer Assifuah scored at the death of extra time to hand the Black Satellites passage to the semi-final to face France on Wednesday.

Ghana had to fight off a Chilean challenge that gave the South Americans a 2-1 lead at half time after Moses Odjer had given the Black Satellites an 11th minute advantage.

However, goals from Nicolas Castillo and Manchester United player Angelo Henriquez put Ghana on the back foot and on the possible path to elimination.

But Liberty Professionals striker Ebenezer Assifuah pulled Ghana even to send the match into extra time.

Henriquez scored again for Chile in the 98th minute when he connected a glancing header past Eric Ofori Antwi after the central defence was split apart by an over-the-top pass.

But Ghana fought back once again and scored when a neat combination of passes around the Chilean area found Seidu Salifu who kept calm and slotted past Chilean goalie Dario Melo.

The match was level at 3 apiece and heading for the penalty shootout but some brilliant, relentless running down the right from Frank Acheampong opened the South Americans up and he found Assifuah with a looping cross.

Ghana’s number 17 gave the ball a slight touch towards goal but it landed in the net following the failure of two Chilean defenders to clear it and Melo’s late reaction.

The final whistle soon went for wild celebrations in the Ghana camp to begin while Chile were left with tears.
