U/E: Chiefs and residents of Soe vow to hit the streets with a massive demonstration

Assemblyman for the Soe electoral area, Richard Abangna has hinted that resident and chiefs of the area will in some day to come hit the streets of Bolgatanga with a massive demonstration to register their displeasure with the state of their roads and the fact that residents are dying as a result of inhaling dust.

Few months to the election last year, work started on the Soe-Bongo road. Constructors on the road worked day and night to get the road tarred but work on the stretch stopped immediately after the elections.

As a result, residents who live along the stretch have had to suffer from the dust that emanates from the road. Some businesses especially food vendors and dress makers on the stretch have had to close down because the dust enters their food making it unwholesome.

But speaking on A1 Radio’s flagship program Daybreak Upper East, the Assemblyman of the area said although he is aware that My turn Construction company’s machines were being used for the work on the road, he has been put in the dark on who the contract was awarded to.

He mentioned that although he has made several attempts to be provided with details of the contract since people in his electoral area have been left to suffer the brunt of the negligence of a contractor, no information have been provided to him.

I went to the old MCE who failed to tell me who the contractor is but assured me that they will fix the road before the elections last year. The road was not fixed and work also stopped just after the election. My people are suffering and they are always complaining but we don’t have any information on the contract and who the contractor is,” he told show host Christopher Assima.

He indicated that he and the chiefs of the area are very worried about the state of their roads which is compounded with the dust that emanates from it and are in discussions to hold a massive demonstration to drum home their plight.

I am discussing with the chiefs of my community. In some days to come, we may release a press statement or organise our people to hit the streets with a massive demonstration so that they will see that we are suffering because of the negligence of a contractor. My people have been complaining everyday and it is affecting businesses because most of them have had to close down.
