John Dramani Mahama has called on Africans to collaborate to build an Africa devoid of barriers and stereotypes.

Today, Ghana joins other African countries to celebrate the African Union Day, the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) (now known as the African Union) on May 25, 1963. It is celebrated in various countries on the African continent, as well as around the world.

But the leader of the National Democratic Congress in the 2016 election, John Dramani Mahama in a post Facebook to commemorate the day noted that without unity, it will be a daunting task building the future of Africa which was envisaged by “our forebears envisaged”.

He indicated that burying differences, doing away with barriers and any form of stereotype and discarding the influence of Neocolonialism will help Africa surge in whatever she does.

He said: “Let’s keep working at it, let’s tear down the barriers, let’s tear down stereotypes, let’s tear down the relics of Neocolonialism and let’s work hard to shape our common future as our forebears envisaged”.

This year’s celebration of the African Union Day is the 54th edition.
