Former President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday joined the Charismatic Evangelistic Ministry headed by Rev. Steve Mensah to launch the “CEM Ability Village” project at Ningo in the Greater Accra Region.

The charity project is aimed at empowering persons living with disabilities to live more fulfilling and dignified lives and to be able to support themselves and their families.

On his facebook page on Sunday, the former President stressed that persons with disability do not need sympathy but equal opportunities.

“They want to be recognized and they want all forms of discrimination against them to end. We have examples like software engineer Farida Bedwei, who have proven that given the opportunity, PwDs can even do better than many with no disability.” He said.

Former President John Mahama, went on to add that many legislations have intended to help, protect and improve the lives of PwDs but enforcement has not been effective.

“…and it is one of the areas I will focus my attention as leader of the National Democratic Congress and President of Ghana in 2021.” He added.

He however said: “the proposed 2,000 acres CEM Ability Village will be a purpose-built community for PwDs in Ningo, here in the Greater Accra Region, where PwDs will enjoy full and equal rights, be included and play active roles in society.”
