A communication team Member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region Roland Datoghe has attributed the absence of the Brazilian contractor working on the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom Road in the region to the conflict in Bawku.

When the A1 News team visited the site specifically, the Kulaa River bridges in Bolgatanga, it was found out that the Brazilian construction firm, Queiroz Galvao MI, that was seen working on the road had stopped work and even packed out of the site.

But speaking to Joshua Asaah on A1 Radio’s ‘Zina Yela’ show, Monday 13 February 2023, Mr. Datoghe dismissed the allegation that the contractor had already exported some of his equipment to somewhere in East Africa, and might not return if the government did not listen and meet the demands. While dismissing those claims he noted that the constructor has packed his equipment to Tamale in the Northern region due to the events in the Bawku area.

According to the NPP former Nabdam constituency Organizer, the contractor working on the road also has his base in Tamale, the reason he promptly packed his equipment to the region for safety.

“Since he has the certificate for payment, government can say oh, they will pay this time or that time. So if he knows he has another opportunity to work somewhere else, he will leave the one he is currently executing and go and start the new one; that’s how contractors work. So what I want to say here for NDC and everybody to hear this evening is that, the contractor has not abandoned the site, he has not left the road. He has not also packed his equipment and left the site for a very far place to the extent that the people are asking why he has left the place. Some are even spreading rumours that he has left for Angola.”

“All I want to say this evening is that he has not in any way left for Angola. The equipment he uses in Angola is different from those in Ghana here. Where he has parked the equipment is Tamale; the equipment is in Tamale here. All the equipment he will use to execute Ghana contracts are in Tamale. The reason he has moved the equipment to Tamale is as a result of the Bawku conflict. We all know the situation in Bawku; the equipment is not safe. All I want to say is that, you people said the equipment has been moved to Angola, they are in Tamale, not Angola; that’s all” Mr. Roland Datoghe said in the Nabt.

Upon the commencements of work on the 117.94-kilometre Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road construction the Brazilian contractor setup his operational centre in Binduri district where all his materials and equipment were parked while they moved around working on the road.
