The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Zamse Senior High Technical School (SHTS) has donated 150 dining hall tables and 300 benches to the school, providing much-needed relief to more than 2,600 students who have long struggled with inadequate dining furniture.

Headmaster Anaba Simon, who received the items on behalf of the school, noted that the provision was timely. He explained that for the past year, the entire student population of 2,609 relied solely on dining hall tables due to inadequate seating. He commended the PTA for responding to this urgent need.

Mr. Anaba also gave a brief history of the school, recalling that it began at Awuguyah JHS before relocating to its current site on September 27, 1976, and transitioning to a senior high school a year later. Zamse SHTS is the 7th oldest among the original 38 Senior High Technical Institutes in the region and currently the 4th largest by population. He added that the school excelled in athletics, soccer, basketball, and volleyball in the early 1980s.

PTA Chairman, David Volmeng, expressed relief at finally addressing an issue that had concerned him for two years. He outlined several initiatives undertaken by the PTA, including the construction of 600 mono desks during its first year—an intervention that significantly improved a situation where over 2,000 students shared only 275 desks. The association also partnered with Gratis Foundation to build two large refuse containers to improve sanitation, supported the relocation and refurbishment of the school’s sickbay, and provided A4 sheets for end-of-term examinations.

Mr. David appealed to parents to continue supporting the school by providing personal furniture for their children until the government can supply additional resources.

The Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education expressed gratitude to the PTA for its sustained commitment. Upper East Regional Director of Education, Abdul-Korah Razak, praised the PTA’s collaborative spirit and urged students to maintain discipline to fully benefit from the improved learning environment.

Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Roland Atanga Ayoo, acknowledged the role of government in reinstating the PTA structure and commended the association for its significant impact. He assured the school that with the uncapping of GETFund—and support from the Member of Parliament, an alumnus, as well as the Regional Minister—the school is poised for further infrastructural development. He encouraged students to remain loyal, hardworking, and disciplined to honour the sacrifices of parents and teachers.
